The slanderer!  The backbiter!

 The slanderer  is not merely the idle gossip, he is more. He is the inventor, or, what is equally criminal, he is the propagator of calumny itself! Envious of a rival, resolved upon shading the luster, or bent upon the total extinguishment of a star circling in a wider and brighter orbit than his own, he either coins, or propagates a lie injurious to the character of some public servant of God, or the reputation and happiness of some private individual moving in the quiet and unobtrusive walks of usefulness.

 The backbiter  is the destroyer of the absent one. Of all evil speaking this is, perhaps, the lowest, the most cruel and dastardly. Taking advantage of the defenseless position of his victim, asserting behind his back what he would not dare to utter before his face; by dark insinuations, by mysterious innuendoes, by a tragic tone; the backbiter will give affected importance and authenticity to what all the while he knows to be unfounded in truth; and by this despicable means do serious and, perhaps, irreparable injury to the character and good name of an innocent, and, it may be, useful servant of the Lord; who, by his absence, is precluded from either defending his innocence or confounding his calumniator.

How sad and unenviable the character of the slanderer, the whisperer, the backbiter, the talebearer, the gossip! What are all these but domestic pests; propagators of a social moral plague?

A remark is unavoidable, at the end of this historical pilgrimage.
Accredited commentators have spoken of the “track” followed by John Paul the 2nd, as a constant combination of a “religious”and a “political line”.
But, there we are : the “political” line has devoured the “prophetic” part.
“House of Israel, House of Peter : I address myself to you – why do you say : the prophet’s word is like the wind, passed away ? .... (From : “To the pleasure seeking city”, prophecy of Marcello Ciai, 1995). The Pope, during the mass celebrated on Sunday March 27 in the Sanctuary of the -empty ! – tomb in Jerusalem, mentioned only one time Christ’s return (“parousia”). Nevertheless, that is just the end of the age we live in : opened by our Lord’s resurrection, and will be concluded by His Second Coming. But, how can we “proclaim” this truth “from the rooftops” (using the very words of the Pope) without hindering the diplomatic meetings and political balance amongst Hebrews and Moslems ?
Christ never followed a “political” line and when he came into the temple, he didn’t worry about scandalizing the world – chasing out everybody with a whip – neither worried about the scandal given to the “religious”, to whom he prophesies His resurrection (John 2 : 13-22) : just as we should prophesy about His Second Coming. This “parousia” shall be preceeded by the “reacceptance” of Israel, that “will be saved” (Rom. 17:15,26), even if through painful events : Jerusalem surrounded by armies (Luke 21 : 20) gathered against “the camp of the saints and the beloved city” (Rev. 20 : 9). This is the “Israel” and the “Jerusalem” of which we are concerned : not the actual – and extremely frail equilibrium of ethnic, political and religious combinations. The Israel for which we are praying, is the people whom God has not rejected, but that has let “harden” their hearts, “until the full number of the gentiles has come in “ (Romans 11 : 11-25) And more than diplomatic acknowledgements towards them or their enemies, we pray and wait for them to acknowledge, in the person of Christ, the Messiah foretold by the prophets : who has come, and shall come .......

14) Stand therefore, and fasten the belt of truth around your waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness.
15) As shoes for your feet put on whatever will make you ready to proclaim the gospel of peace.
16) With all of these, take the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17) Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

I am in areg, walking in prayer without fear; then the loneliness makes itself felt and here it is that I see descending from Heaven a man dressed in a white tunic. He takes me by the hand and while talking softly to me, he says:  

"COME AND I WILL LET YOU VISIT THE TOMB OF THE GREAT MEN BEGINNING FROM MOSES UP TO THE LATEST"

A long tunnel begins to open itself in the sand, we are making our way in the tunnel with loculuses made in its walls and in each loculus which is lightened by three candles, there was one of the great men up to the latest one who was Pope John XXIII.
On the way with my hand  in the hand of  the man dressed in white I was amazed and like an outsider to the world. Then I woke up .
